Devotees of Lord Ganesha bring home Ganesha idols do the sthapna ( make them seated at a particular place and decorating the place) as per there wish say 1.5 day, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days or 9 days. and then on 10th day i.e. anant chaturthi the idol is immersed in water/ river/ sea...But these days to keep our rivers clean we can immerse idols in tub of water and then once the clay is dissolved it can be used to water plants. Ganesha pooja on the Chaturthi day is usually performed as per the Muh...

Hartalika Puja

Hartalika Puja is performed every year during Shukla paksha tritiya of bhadrapada month. This generally falls one day before "Ganesh Chaturthi" and three days after 'pola' amavasya. On this day statue of God Shiva and Godess Parvati are made of Soil from tulsi flower pot for worshipping. The mud idols are then  worshipped for marital bliss. Its made like this because the story says goddess parvati also did puja of clay shivling in deep forest to pray to have only God Shiva as her husband.... Lot of leaves from different trees and flowers are used for ritual. Next day udyapan is done with nevedyam of curd and rice and then the clay idols are submerged in water.
